Shirley Hendley - Hansen

Shirley A. Hendley-Hanson, age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 25, 2016, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. She was born September 30, 1938, in Sleepy Eye, MN to Raymond and Rose (Helget) Mertz. She was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years in Mankato and retired to the family farm in Sleepy Eye in 1987 where she enjoyed the peacefulness of country living along with her passion for growing flowers especially roses. Shirley will be remembered for her love of traveling and her adventures, which she loved to share, along with her many acts of kindness and love shown to her family and friends over the years. Shirley is survived by her brother, John "Jack" Mertz, husband, Charles "Chisey" Hansen and his children, Jan (Rod) O'Marron, Craig (Linda) Hansen and Scott (Mary Sue) Hansen. She is also survived by grandchildren, Rachal (Randy) Becker, Derek (Rachel) Volz, Brady Hansen, Jody Hansen, Brandon Hansen, Kip (Ilena) Marron, and Scott (Becca) Marron; and great grandchildren - Courtney, Melanie, Allison, Colten, Katelyn, Lila, Eden, Alec, Jack, and Macon. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband - Marcene "Ceno" Hendley. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff and volunteers at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, nurses and doctors at Sleepy Eye Medical Center and the staff from Redwood Falls Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shirley's name to Divine Providence Community Home and Sleepy Eye Medical Center for the Hansen Family Scholarship Program.
