Shirley Ann Griffith, age 85, of Madelia, Minnesota died on February 3, 2016, at the Madelia Community Hospital. Shirley was born on July 6, 1930, to Frances and Cecil Miller at Eagle Lake, Minnesota. She graduated from Mankato High School, Mankato, Minnesota. She obtained her RN degree (Registered Nurse) from attending Augustana College and Sioux Valley School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD. She worked as a nurse at the Immanuel Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota, following her college graduation. She married Howard Griffith of rural Madelia in Mankato, Minnesota, and worked with her husband on their family dairy farm at rural Madelia until her husband's death in 1984. She then returned to her nursing career working in Madelia, Lake Crystal, and New Ulm until retiring at age 67. She was an active member first of LaSalle Lutheran Church in LaSalle, Minnesota, teaching Sunday School for several years and later of ,Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia, Minnesota, serving for years as a Bible Study Leader for the Lutheran Women's Groups. She was an avid gardener and worked hard with her poultry production. She frequented the Madelia Public Library often as she enjoyed reading. She was accomplished in her knitting and crocheting of beautiful sweaters and doilies. Shirley and Howard Griffith were the parents of four children: Hope (Daniel) Kordahl, Rock Rapids, Iowa, Faith (Bruce) Carter, Rock Island, Illinois, Julene (Mike) Kielman, Grantsburg, Wisconsin, and Lynn (Reme) Griffith, Madelia, Minnesota. Grandchildren include: Angela (Jacob) Kordahl Rapp, of Spokane, Washington, David (Holly) Kordahl of Mesa, Arizona, Calvin (MiKyong) Carter of Tallahassee, Florida, Chad (Bridget) Carter of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Joshua Kielman of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, and William, Rylan and Julianna Griffith of Madelia, Minnesota. Great-grandchildren include: Mia and Dillon Carter of Tallahassee, Florida, and Sullivan Carter of Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Griffith, her parents, Frances and Cecil Miller, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Julia and Lorenzo Griffith, her brother-in-law Stanley Shelley, and her nephew Larry Shelley. She is survived by, in addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Esther (Griffith) Shelley of Spencer, Iowa, and her niece, Judy (Sydney) Shelley Peterson of Rembrandt, Iowa.
