Shirley Ann Foster was born July 23, 1928, near Morgan, MN, on the farm of her parents, Elmer and Hattie (Axland) George. She was valedictorian of the Morgan High School class of 1945 and was graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Augsburg College in 1949. She taught high school at Butterfield, Hector and Two Harbors for several years prior to marrying Roy Foster and moving to his farm near Morgan, where she lived for the next 50 years, moving to Springfield in 2003. She was a member of the Morgan Methodist Church and a United Methodist Women member, and was active in the Jolly Troopers 4H club and the Brookville Extension Club. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 5771, serving in several offices including as President. Shirley died on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, age 84. She is survived by her children -- Susan Kay and her husband Darryl Koelman of Perham, MN, Thomas and his wife Judith Foster of Geneseo, NY, and Paul Foster and his wife Nancy Glazener of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother, Raymond George; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters, Violet Kempe-Story of Mora, MN, and Elaine Lindeval of Park Rapids, MN.
