Sherman John Hubert was born June 25, 1935, in New Ulm, MN to John and Esther (Wegner) Hubert. He attended elementary school at District 28. As a child, Sherman liked to walk to the creek east of the farm place and fish, earning the nickname "Percher". He graduated from Lamberton High School in 1953 where he loved playing baseball his Junior and Senior years. He then farmed with his dad until serving with the U.S. Army 9th Infantry from May of 1958 to April of 1960. Sherman was stationed at the Eilsen Air Force Base near Fairbanks, Alaska and served as a cook. After his Honorable Discharge, he returned to the farm to work with his father. He was united in marriage to Geraldine 'Geri' Koenig on September 15, 1974, in Lamberton and the couple were blessed with one son, Kyle John. Sherman was an avid sports fan enjoying the Minnesota Twins and Gophers, and was a season ticket holder of the Vikings for 55 years. He enjoyed his daily coffee at the gas station and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Anastacia. Sherman was a member of the Lamberton United Methodist Church and Andrew Peterson American Legion Post #41. Sherman Hubert died Sunday, August 13, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 82. He survived by wife Geri of Lamberton; son Kyle and his daughter Anastacia of Winnebago; sisters- Lois Tassler of Fergus Falls, Virginia Bryan of Apple Valley, and Phyllis (Jim) Behrends of Battle Lake; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Esther; and brothers-in-law Zane Tassler and Win Bryan.
