Shareen A Halvorson

Shareen Ann (Martin) Halvorson, age 84 of Springfield, MN passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026 after a brave and lengthy battle with breast cancer.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 10th, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, MN.

Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Sanborn, MN on Friday at 1:30 PM.

Shareen was born on March 1, 1942 in Oshkosh, WI to John and Mildred (Graper) Martin, and she was confirmed in her faith in 1956 at Grace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.

Shareen graduated from Oshkosh Senior High in 1960. She attended one year of the teacher's academy at Winnebago Lutheran Academy before being hired as an elementary education teacher. She continued her own education for four summers at Dr Martin Luther College (DMLC) in New Ulm, MN.

In 1964 Shareen married Donald Steffen and moved to his farm outside Sanborn, MN, where she and Don had seven children together before divorcing in 1984. Shareen moved to Springfield, MN where she met and married Leonard Halvorson in 1986. They later divorced.

Shareen loved life on the farm and embraced southwestern Minnesota as her home. She shared her love of singing by joining the choir at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn and as a member of the Southwest Area Lutheran Chorale. In addition to singing, Shareen enjoyed reading, embroidery (which she learned from her father), and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren all treasure their "Granny Shareen" blankets.

After moving to Springfield, Shareen was employed at the Blossom Bar, Food 'n Fuel convenience store, and eventually at St John's Lutheran Home where she enjoyed her career from 1992-2012.

Shareen is survived by her sister Marilyn (Rich) Siegler of Manitowoc, WI and by her children Matthew (Chris) Steffen of Sanborn, MN, Colleen Haag of Bemidji, MN, James (Marie) Steffen of Doylestown, WI, Maureen Flynn of Crystal, MN, Janeen Oien of New Brighton, MN, and Laureen (Scott) Boutang of Crystal, MN; grandchildren Bobbi Hauth, Stephanie (Andy) Fromm, Jessica Haag, Timothy Haag (Miguel Hernandez), Trevor Steffen, Lauren Steffen, Kyle Peterson, Andrew Denzer, Nathan Denzer, Sherri Oien, Andy Oien, Emma Oien, and Dominic Boutang; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Shareen is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred Martin, brothers John (Jack) Martin II and David Martin, daughter Kathleen Marie Steffen, and grandson Connor James Flynn.

The family offers sincere and heartfelt thanks to the home hospice staff of Allina Health and St John's Lutheran Home for their care of and love for our mother in her final days.
