Sarah Loretta Lehman, age 85, of Worthington and formerly of Windom, passed away on January 16, 2024, at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington
A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Saint James on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery Saint James.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Sarah was born July 18, 1938, to John and Pauline (Hanson) Sharp on the family farm in South Branch Township, south of Saint James, Minnesota. Sarah was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at First Lutheran Church in St. James. She graduated from Saint James High School in 1956.
On August 31, 1957, she married Richard Lehman at First Lutheran Church in Saint James. During their first few years of marriage, they lived in rural Madelia, Luverne, and Lester Prairie and finally settled in Windom in 1964. Together, Sarah and Richard raised two children, Kimberly and Brett.
Sarah placed a high priority on motherhood. She enjoyed spending time in play and reading to her children. She volunteered at the classroom when her children were young. In her free time, Sarah enjoyed baking, especially chocolate chip cookies, collecting old and beautiful glassware and dishes, reading, writing poetry, decorating her home, and spending time with family. Sarah enjoyed being friendly with people and would often strike up conversations, and enjoyed laughing with others.
Sarah was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom, taking part in Circle, Bible studies, and assisted with the church youth group. Sarah worked part-time with Avon, Byer’s Drug, Lewis Drug as well as bookkeeping for Richard’s welding shop.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Kimberly (Darwin) Elbers and Brett Lehman; grandchildren, Kelsey (Peter) Grahn and Tony (Alli) Elbers, great grandchildren, Zoey and Rykon Grahn and Jagger and Jaxtyn Elbers, in-laws Ruby & Ewald Keller and Gail Lehman, many nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Loren Sharp, Anna Mae Curry, David Sharp, Donna Jean Nagel, Herbert Sharp and Karen Kay Sharp.
