San Juanita “Janie” Atkinson was born on February 6, 1978 to Noemi Reyna Martinez and Vincente Atkinson in Brownsville, TX. San Juanita grew up in Brownsville and was a graduate of Pace High School. She moved to Madelia, MN in 1998. She has two daughters Destiny and Jovana with former husband Fermin Cortez. San Juanita has worked at Tony Downs, Hope and Faith, etc. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving and caring, daughter, sister, mother, aunt and soon to be grandmother.
San Juanita “Janie” Atkinson, age 45, of Lewisville, MN died on April 4, 2023, at her home.
San Juanita is survived by her daughters, Destiny Cortez, and Jovana Cortez; mother, Noemi Reyna Martinez; siblings, Ernesto Arizmendi, David Arizmendi, Norma Martinez, and Balmore Martinez; nieces, Monica Lemus, Brianna DeLuna, Vanessa Arizmendi, Sofia Gabler, and Lilyana Gabler. San Juanita was preceded in death by her uncle Arnolo Reyna, grandfather Noe Reyna, grandmother Maria Reyna, and step-father Balmore Martinez.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 10:00 am.
Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral at the Sturm Funeral Home Pilgrim Chapel-Madelia.
The clergy will be Fr. Timothy Hall. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Madelia.
