Salvatore 'Sal' Stillo

Salvatore 'Sal' Stillo was born October 1, 1940, in Floridia, Sicily to Guiseppe and Concetta (Valenti) Stillo. The family moved to La Plata, Argentina when Sal was 9 years old. He completed his education there and then worked as a bricklayer and at other factory jobs. Sal moved to New Britain, CT in 1960 where he met Kathleen Daniels. The couple was united in marriage on August 4, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Britain. Sal continued his work as a bricklayer until they moved to Jeffers, MN in 1973 where he worked at the Jeffers High School as a custodian and bus driver for many years. He then worked at Toro in Windom, MN until 1990 when the couple bought the bar in Lamberton. Sal owned S&K Liquor until selling it in 1996. Sal then worked at Jonti-Craft in Wabasso until his retirement. He was fluent in several languages and taught himself English as a young man. Sal enjoyed photography, singing - especially opera and spanish songs, dancing, gardening, reading, and drawing. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching the Vikings, and raising his chickens, sheep and ducks while living in Jeffers. Sal loved life and spending time with his grandchildren. Salvatore Stillo died Monday, April 10, 2017, at the age of 76 years after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and lung cancer. He is survived by wife Kathleen; children- Mary (Tom) Barthman of Hudson, WI, Margaret (Joe) Garvin of Wabasha, MN, David (special friend Sue) Stillo of Sacred Heart, MN, and Nancy (Keith) Kurkowski of Lamberton, MN; 11 grandchildren; sisters- Connie Delgado, Rose (Richard) Chadbourne, and Josephine (Carlos) Rodriguez; brothers- Carmelo (Patsy) Stillo, and Mario Stillo; and many nieces and nephews.
