Sadie was born March 1, 1907 in Birchwood, WI, the daughter of Albert and Ella (Kunze) Becker. The family moved to Lamberton, MN where she graduated from Lamberton High School and received her teachers training. She began her teaching career in 1926 and taught for 4 years at several country schools in Redwood Co. Sadie married Hubert C. Schroeder on May 28, 1930. They farmed near Wanda, MN, where she was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Home Extension program in Redwood Co. In 1956 Hubert and Sadie moved to Sleepy Eye where she resumed her teaching career at St. Mary's School for 12 years, while attending Mankato State College. After retiring in 1970, they built and moved to a home on Horseshoe Lake near Richmond, MN and became involved in the Senior Citizens' Federation. They later moved to Coon Rapids where she continued her involvement with the Senior Citizen Organizations. Not able to live alone any longer, she moved to Divine Providence in December of 2002. Sadie enjoyed cooking and baking and is remembered for the tasty food and baked good served in her home. She had a lifelong interest in needlework and sewing. Her creations are still treasured by her family. Reading and writing materials were never far from her reach. Teaching was the joy of her life. Sadie died at the age of 97 years on Sunday, October 24, 2004 at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Sadie is loved and remembered by her children - Les and wife Dolores of New Ulm, Dennis and wife Pat of Coon Rapids, Ellen and husband Herb Blonigen of Sartell, and Teresa Speckman - Schroeder of New Ulm; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 20 step great grandchildren; 3 step great great grandchildren; sister - Elnore Petersen of Marshall; a brother sister -in - law - John and Mae Schroeder and sisters-in-law - Annie Hengel of Sleepy Eye and Alice Becker of Coon Rapids; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Hubert; brothers - Earl, and Leslie Becker; an infant sister; daughter-in-law - Jane Schroeder and a baby grandson.
