Ruth Arlene Kersten, the daughter of Herman and Amanda Wendt, was born on June 28, 1909, in Lamberton, MN. She received her education in the consolidated public school at Wanda for the first 10 years and graduated from the Lamberton Public School in 1928. She graduated from Lamberton Teachers Training Department and taught in rural schools in Redwood and Brown County. She married Carl Henry Kersten on April 23, 1940. Carl died in May of 1968. She was a member of the EUB Church and later St. John Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School many years, enjoyed Leah Circle and quilting for missions. She enjoyed her family and friends and loved to teach, garden and travel. Birds and flowers were her passion. Scrabble was her favorite game to play. Ruth died at the age of 103 years on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Home where she resided the last 6 years. She is survived by her 5 daughters and their husbands - Carlotta (Jim) Lindeman, Jean (Dennis) Youngerberg both of Springfield, Angela Ames of Crookston, MN, Gail (Dr. Donn) Moll of Moraga, CA, and Julianne (Howard) Jenkins of Las Vegas, NV; nine granddaughters; seven grandsons, 31 great grandchildren; a brother - Laurence Wendt of Lamberton; and two sisters - Rosella Buddensiek of Mankato and Helen Fischer of Judson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers - Arthur, William, Wilbert, and Arnold; sisters - Adehlia Lamprecht, Elizabeth Anderson, Arlene Rengstorf and Dorothy Coulter; a grandson - Paul Lindeman; and a granddaughter - Allison Ames.
