Ruth Johnson

Ruth Mary Johnson was born on January 14, 1916 in Sleepy Eye, MN, the daughter of Andrew Margaret (Tierney) Johnson. Ruth attended dance schools with sister, Myrtle in Minneapolis and Mankato. They started the Johnson Sisters School of Dance, conducting classes in tap, ballet, acrobatic and ballroom dancing in Sleepy Eye, New Ulm and Springfield. Their students performed annually at a spring style show and dance program at the Pix Theatre in Sleepy Eye. After performing on stage for several years with Jay Gould Shows, Ruth was employed as a telephone operator for the Sleepy Eye Telephone Company. In 1960, Ruth became librarian at the Dyckman Free Library in Sleepy Eye. She especially liked interacting with children at the library. She retired in 1986. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Ruth Johnson, age 94, passed away at the Sleepy Eye Care Center on September 30, 2010. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Albert Spin Schroepfer. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Myrtle (Mrs. Albert) Schroepfer.
