Russell Herrig

July 26, 1940 — April 22, 2012

Russell Vernon Herrig was born July 26, 1940, in Storm Lake, IA to Carl and Bena (Kies) Herrig. He moved with his family to Minnesota in 1948, and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1958. Russ was united in marriage to Helen Pidde on October 18, 1958, in Comfrey. The couple farmed various farms until purchasing a farm south of Comfrey in 1965. Russ was a dairy farmer until 2004, when he began restoring old International tractors. In his mind, there was nothing better than an International! Russ served on the Darfur Tri-County Board for 22 years, the Renville County Board, First Responders, the Zoning Board, the Church Council where he served as president for many years, the church cemetery board, and the Comfrey Lions Club. Family was very important to Russ. He loved his kids and grandkids and they never knew when he would play his next trick. Russ Herrig died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake at the age of 71 years. He is survived by wife Helen of Comfrey; children- Charles and wife Corrine Herrig of Comfrey, Ruth Ibarra and special friend Lyle Freitag of Butterfield, and Robert and wife Lisa Herrig of Comfrey; grandchildren- Silvia and husband Ryan Christensen, Josh Ibarra and special friend Katie, and Nick and Brady Herrig; great-grandchildren- Mackenzie, Makayla, Livia, and Evan; brothers- Harold (Janet) Herrig, and Donald (Elaine) Herrig; sisters- Hazel Marietta, and Marvel (Lester) Anderson; sister-in-law Laura Herrig; mother-in-law Eleanor Pidde; and many other relatives and friends.
