Roy Guggisberg

Roy George Guggisberg was born October 19, 1919, to Henry and Friederika (Kruse) Guggisberg in Sherman Township, Redwood County of Minnesota. On October 26, 1919, he was baptized in the name of the Triune God. He moved to a farm in Willow Lake Township on March 1, 1920. Roy's formal education was at District 67 Country School and the Wanda School #30 for 8 years. He publicly confessed his faith and was confirmed on June 1, 1933, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Willow Lake Township, Minnesota. On July 2, 1944, Roy was united in marriage to Marjorie Dahms at Trinity Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with four sons and one daughter. They resided on a farm in Willow Lake Township near Wanda until they moved to Springfield in 1983. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Roy served as Sunday School teacher and church officer. He currently was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sanborn, Minnesota. There he served as treasurer and as a trustee on the church council. He also served the community as a member of District 94 School Board. Roy was a farmer at heart his whole life and was always willing to help others. Roy passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 92. He is survived by by three sons- Roy H., Jim (Doris), and Scott, all of Sanborn; daughter Sharon Gieseke of Maple Grove, MN; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Hertha Zimmerman of Redwood Falls, MN; and brothers- Raymond (Darlene) of Battle Lake, MN, and Vernon (Pat) of Redwood Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marjorie in 2002; a son in infancy; brothers- Harold, Louis, and Herbert; and sisters- Lorna and Alice.
