Rose Carlson-Peterson

Rosetta 'Rose' Violet (Carlson) Petersen was born May 18, 1916 in Adrian Township, Watonwan County, the daughter of August and Emma (Goltz) Haseman. She was united in marriage to Melvin Carlson on July 24, 1937 in Estherville, IA. Shortly after marriage, they opened the Mel-Rose Cafe in Darfur and operated that for 21 years. Melvin died in 1972. Rose was then married to Jack Petersen on December 12, 1974. Rose worked at Butterfield Foods, cleaned the Darfur Bank, and worked as a housekeeper for the Floyd Elg family before retiring and moving to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield in 1996. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Darfur, served on the Ladies Aid, and was a charter member of the Darfur Garden Club. Rose enjoyed baking cookies, fishing, gardening, raising flowers, taking care of others, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Rosetta Violet (Carlson) Petersen died Monday, December 6, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Home at the age of 88 years. Survivors include daughter- Sharon and husband Ernie Baier-Goodrow of Springfield; sons- Duane and wife Sara Carlson of St. James, and Virgil and wife Jean Carlson of Faribault; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sisters- Doris and husband Frank Sawatzky of St. James, and Inez and husband Don Skjervold of St. James; and brother-in-law- Kenneth Crane of Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands- Melvin in 1972 and Jack in 1978; daughter- Vivian in infancy; sister- Fern Crane; and son-in-law- Ken Baier.
