Roland John Polkow was born February 24, 1928, on the family farm in Burnstown Township, the son of John and Louise (Stark) Polkow. He was united in marriage to Inez Bergum on June 25, 1948, at the Albion Lutheran Church. A lifetime resident of the Springfield area, the couple farmed the family farm until moving into Springfield in 1997. Roland was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, served on the Church Council, and was an active member of the Beef Producers Association. He enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards, visiting with his friends at Fritz's, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Roland John Polkow died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his children- Steven and wife Linda Polkow of Owatonna, and their children- Todd, Sara and Hope; Judy and husband Richard Pauling of Duluth, and their children- Sherri and husband Jason Lashinski, and Jason Pauling; Jean Polkow of Northfield; Dean Polkow of Golden Valley; and Jill and husband Tim Vogel of Springfield, and their children- Scott and Emily; great-grandchildren- Jordan, Avery, Nolan, and Devann; sisters- Doris Bierman of Jeffers, Lois and husband Robert Baur of Pahrump, NV, and Ruth and husband Larry Potter of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Inez in 2006; son Daniel in 1994; a child in infancy; brother Willis and his wife Phyllis Polkow; brother-in-law- Loren Bierman; and nephews Craig Potter and Allan Polkow.
