Roland Bernell Joblinske, known to many as Tiny, was born July 24, 1926, in Truman, MN, the son of William Rose (Westman) Joblinske. Tiny grew up in the Madelia and St. James areas. He attended St. James High School before joining the Army in 1944. He served in the Pacific, earned a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in 1946. Roland was united in marriage to Virjene Bakke on June 28, 1952 in St. James. Tiny worked for the Watonwan County Highway Department for 30 years retiring at age 58. He then became a correctional officer for Watonwan County Sheriff's Office where he worked for 17 years. Tiny loved his garden, riding bike, roller skating, shopping and doing woodworking. He enjoyed making bird houses. He served on the St. James Veterans Honor Guard for more than 60 years, was a life member and past commander of the VFW and life member of the American Legion. Tiny loved spending time with his wife and girls. They enjoyed many trips, including the Black Hills and the North Shore. He loved listening to polka music. Survivors include his wife, Virjene Joblinske of St. James, daughters, Marcia Metli of St. James, Cheryl Joblinske of New Ulm and a sister, Arlene Derksen of Columbia Heights. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arnold, Wilmar, Donald, sister, Vera Dexheimer, nephew Gary Dexheimer, niece Mary Joblinske, niece Karen Shorma and son-in-law Randall Metli.
