Roland John Boettger

October 3, 1925 — August 31, 2016

Roland 'Rollie' John Boettger was born October 3, 1925, in Springfield, MN to Arthur and Elsie (Kettner) Boettger. He graduated from Springfield High School then served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Rollie farmed with his father until taking over the farm on his own. He also was the course superintendent at the Springfield Golf Club for a few years. Rollie loved baseball and played town team ball for Springfield and Comfrey during his earlier years. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Baker Johnson on January 2, 1979, in Apache Junction, AZ. Rollie loved kids and developed the Boettger Family Charitable Fund that awards scholarships to graduating seniors. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling. Roland Boettger died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 90 years. He is survived by sister Ardis (Gordon) Alexander of Vesta; nephews- Mark (Lynn) Zamzow and their children Emily and Elise, Joel (Kris) Zamzow and their children MacKenzie and Hunter, and Daniel Zamzow. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert in 1951; parents; nephew Timothy Zamzow in 1984; brother-in-law Edmund Zamzow in 2000; and wife Evelyn in 2013.
