Roger "Ole" Hengel

Roger "Ole" Joseph Hengel was born on September 1, 1939, in Brooks, MN, the son of Leo and Bernice (Fletcher) Hengel. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from January of 1960 until his honorable discharge in October of 1964. Roger was united in marriage to Carol Goldschmidt on May 19, 1962. The couple lived in Sleepy Eye their entire married life. He worked for Leo's Drive Inn and then the U.S Post Office from 1964 until his retirement on September 1, 1998. During retirement, Roger drove school bus and bartended at Meyer's Bar. Roger was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Sleepy Eye Golf Course. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandsons play sports, golfing, playing cards, hunting, and fishing. He is survived by his wife - Carol Hengel of Sleepy Eye; sons - Dean (Kelly) Hengel of Morton, MN and Duane Hengel of Sioux City, IA; grandsons - Taylor and Adam; siblings - Marlyn of Newton, KS, Joyce Rothmeier of Brainerd, MN, Colleen (Ed) Berkner of Sleepy Eye, Phyllis (John) Freeman of Faribault, MN, Cindy (Nelson) Ladd of Belle Plaine, MN; in-laws - Olive Goldschmidt, Marvin (Bernice) Goldschmidt, Pete (Rosie) Goldschmidt, Ed Jungers, Tom Haas, Sr. Audrey Goldschmidt and Elaine Briggs; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws - Joan and Barb Hengel, Donald Rothmeier, Gerald and Jim Goldschmidt, Dolly and Randy Berkner, Roslyn Jungers, Darleen Haas and nephew, Steve Goldschmidt.
