Roger William Curry was born May 31, 1939 at the home of his parents Tom and Edith (Hansen) Curry in Butterfield, MN. The family moved to St. James in 1942. Roger grew up in St. James graduating from St. James High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Darlene Sawatzky in St. James on Feb. 28, 1959. In 1970, they moved to Austin, MN where Roger worked for Lystad Pest Control before returning to St. James in 1972 and going to work for S-T Industries. They purchased Shorty Helen's Cafe renaming it Curry's Cafe which they operated for the next 20 years. Roger also worked as a handyman for Mayberry Realty for 10 years before he retired in 2004. Roger enjoyed reading, horses, guns, vegetable gardening, tending his fruit trees and fishing with his grandson. He was a a member of the Masonic Lodge. Roger Curry died on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, he was 66 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard and brother-in-law Doug Engleking. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Darlene Curry of St. James, daughters Brenda (Brad) Husby of St. James, Karen Rae Curry of St. James, son Brett (Molli) Curry of St. James, brother Dennis (Noreen) Curry of St. James, sister June Engelking of Alexandria,a sister-in-law Doris Curry of Windom, 6 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews
