Rodney Lee 'Gus' Schulte

Rodney Lee "Gus" Schulte was born in Mountain Lake, MN, on September 14, 1939, the son of Harold and Martha (Adams) Schulte. Gus grew up in Mt. Lake moving to Comfrey where he graduated from the Comfrey High School. He joined the US Army in 1957 and served 3 years. On April 9, 1961 Gus married Mary Ann Nelson in St. James. The couple lived in Comfrey before moving to Butterfield in 1962. Gus was a truck driver, he owned and operated his own truck for a number of years. He worked for the elevator in Butterfield and drove truck for several companies retiring in 2004. Gus enjoyed retirement, he was active in the VFW, Lions Club and loved to mow the grass at Voss Park and was a member of the BTA Threshing Bee Assoc. Gus had a love for classic cars and was a member of Prairieland Antique Car Club, AACA and Ford Retractable Club. Gus also served on the Butterfield Volunteer Fire Department. He mentored many during his thirty six plus years of sobriety. Gus was always ready to offer a ride to anyone that needed a lift to a doctor's appointment or grocery store. He enjoyed coffee club, playing cards, wintering in Florida and traveling. He loved his family, and always enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. Gus was a good, kind, generous person, always bringing a smile to your face and always had time for conversation and laughter. Gus is survived by his wife Mary of Butterfield, children; Kendall "Butch" (Julie) Schulte of Sioux City, IA, Keith (Kelly) Schulte of St. James, Kendra Schulte of Chaska, brother Delmar "Tod" (Dianne) Schulte of Cottonwood, CA, sisters Bernice (Bob) Hendrickson of Aurora, CO, Marcelle "Pix" (Allan) Noga of Bullhead City, AZ and 5 grandchildren: Callan, Courtney and Caden of Sioux City, IA and Kamden and Kolby of St. James and many other dear relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Stanley "Corky" Schulte. "May the work I've done speak for me."
