Rodney William Jacobsen was born on September 8, 1930, to William and Grace (Jensen) Jacobsen, in rural Brookville Township. He attended Springfield High School and graduated with honors in 1948. He received meritorious honor in high school for typing over 100 words per minute with no errors. He lived his early farming life in Brookfield Township and was active on the local school board. He also drove a school bus for Springfield Public Schools for many years. Rodney was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served as head usher and a member of the church board. After an early retirement, he and his wife, Dorothy traveled extensively through the United States, Europe, Hawaii and Central America. Rodney was a car enthusiast and enjoyed buying and trading automobiles, and he enjoyed bowling. Rodney William Jacobsen died on Sept. 20th, 2007, at the New Ulm Medical Center at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Olsen) of Springfield; his son, David and daughter-in-law, Erena of Grindvoll, Norway; his daughter, Judy of Chicago, Illinois; his grandchildren, Brian of Chicago, Illinois and Caryn of Santa Monica, California; and his sister-in-law, Darlene (Olsen) and husband Odin Hansen of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan.
