Robert McDonald was born to Roy and Josephine "Mamie" McDonald in Jackson, MN on November 18, 1928 and raised on a farm in Kimball Township. He attended elementary school in Jackson County and high school in Mt. Lake. He worked as an auto mechanic in Monterey, MN following his schooling and briefly flirted with the friendly skies as an amateur pilot. In December of 1946 Bob joined the United States Army and served as a motor pool corporal in Japan. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Japan World War II Victory Medal. He received his honorable discharge in 1949 and joined Trimont-Paterson Implement Company where he worked until he accepted a position with Penner Implement in 1952 and moved to Mt. Lake, MN. On his first day on the job he met Glennys Green of rural Mt. Lake who was working her last day on the job for the farm equipment dealer. On Labor Day 1952, Bob and Glennys went on their first date and attended the Jackson County Fair. In November that year they married. While raising their six children, Bob bought out Henry Penner and was a partner in Ewert-McDonald Implement until the couple moved to McAllen, TX in 1981. Bob served on the Mt. Lake City Council and enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. For a short time Bob worked with 7-Eleven stores. On December 8, 1987 Bob received his Certificate of High School Equivalency (GED) from the State of Texas. Bob and Glennys enjoyed their years together in the hill country of Round Rock, TX until their retirement when they relocated to Holland, TX. Bob was a resident of the Will-O-Bell Nursing Home in Bartlett, TX at the time of his death. He was cremated and a memorial service will be hosted by his family on Saturday, June 20th at the Alliance Missionary Church in Mt. Lake. Bob passed away on November 18, 2008, on his 80th birthday and is survived by his wife Glennys, sons Paul (Shelly) McDonald of Aberdeen, SD; Jim McDonald of Mt. Lake, MN; daughters Shelly (John Ingram) of Parkton, NC; Susan (Don) Carden of Corpus Christi, TX; Karen McDonald of Holland, TX; brothers Bill of Concord, CA; Stan (Sharyn) of Shakopee, MN; sisters Lola (Owen Quiggle) of Fairmont, MN; Lois Klassen of Mt. Lake, MN; Mary Jo Duerksen of Mt. Lake, MN; Alice (Walt) Holmquist of Minneapolis, MN; Evelyn (Ray) Gibbs of Dodge Center, MN; Jeannie (Jerry) Engeman of Sioux Falls, SD; Sandy (Conrad) Olmstead of Minnetonka, MN; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Beulah Rempel, brother Duane McDonald, daughter Sharon McDonald, and grandson Brian Nance.
