Robert Carl Jass

Robert Carl Jass was born on August 10, 1931 to Carl and Esther (Frietag) Jass on the home farm in Lakeside Township near Bingham Lake, MN. He grew up and attended Dist. 66 country school and graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1949 where he was FFA President his senior year. After graduating, he helped on the farm and helped build Trinity Lutheran Church. On March 4, 1952 Bob joined the U.S. Air Force where he served until 1956. In May of 1956, Bob was married to Marg Buroker. They had one son, Eric Jass. The marriage dissolved in 1968. On August 1, 1971 Robert was married to Sally Schultz in Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home in Mountain Lake where they had two children, Stefanie Sorenson and Robert Jass, Jr. He was grinding feed for Floyd Dehmlow before going into business on his own with Jass Grinding and Mixing and also worked at Adrian Butterfield Elevator until he retired at 70 years of age. Bob was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. He later joined Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kimball Township and then went back to Trinity Lutheran Church. He helped Sally with her pickles and gardening and he cleaned bullheads for a lot of people. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping and find a word search books when he could still see. He liked his Buzz TV old time game shows, driving around with Bobby and listening to polka music and old country music. Bob loved visiting with friends and family. His nickname was Sonny. Robert is survived by son, Eric (Shelly) Jass of Kennewick, WA, daughter, Stefanie (Scott) Sorenson of Brewster, MN, son Robert Jass, Jr. of Mountain Lake; grandson, Jason Fiala of Omaha, NE; sister, Yvonne Hildebrandt of Mountain Lake and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally; 3 sisters; 4 brothers; 2 sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
