Bob was born on December 15, 1930, in Coffey, Missouri, to Sterling (Lee) and Berniece Creighton. He spent his early years running barefoot all summer, getting into shenanigans with his cousins, and spending time with his grandfather, a veterinarian.
He attended school in Coffey and St. Joseph, Missouri, until the family moved to Lamberton, Minnesota. When his dad was transferred to Iowa, Bob chose to stay. He lived with a local family for his senior year, graduated from Lamberton High School in 1948, and started working for Interstate Power Company. He would spend his entire 44-year career there - as a lineman, line crew foreman, and finally as area manager for the Lamberton office.
Bob was just 17 when he met and fell in love with Ramona Werner. They were married on March 30, 1951. He was drafted into the Army in 1952, and served as an MP at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where Ramona worked as a secretary on the base. Their time in San Antonio became a special chapter in their story. The couple returned several times over the years to revisit the place where they'd shared so many adventures and good times as newlyweds.
After his discharge, Bob returned to Interstate Power Company. Bob and Ramona's first son, Mark Robert, was born in 1954 and passed away at age four. By 1960, the family had welcomed two more sons, Paul and Scott. They settled in Lamberton after living on the Werner family homestead for a few years. The family took annual fishing trips to Lake Kabetogama, vacations to the mountains, and summer trips to visit family in Missouri. Bob enjoyed woodworking and crafted furniture for the family, including twin beds for his boys.
Beyond work and family, Bob was active in his community. He belonged to the American Legion, Lion's Club, and the Masons, and served on the school board. At Germantown United Methodist Church, he served in various roles over the years. Through his involvement, he supported his community and enjoyed the friendships these organizations brought.
After retiring, Bob and Ramona enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Lake Miltona where they fished and socialized with friends. They traveled to Mexico, Texas, Missouri, and Colorado, and made several trips to California to visit Bob's sisters, Mary Ellen and Gayle. They tended a garden together, canned vegetables, and picked wild raspberries for jelly making. In his final years, they continued to enjoy their home, family, and church.
Bob's greatest joy was his family. As "Grandpa," he always made homemade ice cream when the kids were visiting. They looked forward to his elaborate Christmas village every season. He and Ramona were actively involved in their grandchildren's lives, attending sports events, concerts, and dance recitals. He delighted in every visit from his great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife of 74 years, Ramona; sons Paul (Jo) and Scott (Lori); grandchildren Jacob (Crystal) Creighton, Sarah (Eric) Olson, Ryan (Heather) Creighton, and Andrew (Stephanie) Creighton; great-grandchildren Reed, Mila, Corran, Harrison, Rosalie, Hallie, and Sophia; and sister Gayle Creighton. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Mark; parents-in-law, Milton and Mabel Werner; and sister Mary Ellen Creighton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to WAFER Inc., the Wabasso Area Food Emergency Reserve.
