Rita Kay Halvorson was born October 1, 1936, in Valley, NE, the daughter of Russell and Janice (Ocander) Armagost. As a child she lived in California and Nebraska before moving to Lamberton. Rita worked at the Lamberton Cafe and later Del Monte and 3M. She was united in marriage to Leonard Halvorson on January 24, 1953. They divorced in 1967 and Rita moved to Mankato where she worked at Shari Candies and Johnson Reel. She then moved to Owatonna until moving to Springfield in the early '90's where she worked at AUI in Sleepy Eye. Rita was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed fishing and playing bingo. Rita Kay Halvorson died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 72 years. She is survived by children, Lon Halvorson of Slayton, Larry (Denise) Halvorson of Clements, Michael (Jeanie) Halvorson of Sanborn, Nancy Brown of Geneva, MN, James (Marcia) Halvorson of Geneva, MN, and Thomas Halvorson of Lamberton; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother Gary (Kathy) Armagost of Freemont, NE; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Robert L. Halvorson; and brother Lyle Armagost.
