Rick Smith

Richard Smith, age 56, of Butterfield, died on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 4:30pm to 8:00pm with a 4:00pm rosary scheduled. Richard was born July 26th, 1955 to Ben and Marian Smith. He attended Butterfield-Odin High School and 1972 was joined in marriage to Vickie (Nelson) Smith. A loyal employee, he worked at Butterfield Foods for nearly 40 years. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he was the strength of our family. A generous friend, he was loved by so many people. A passionate fisherman, he found peace and serenity on the water. He will be missed by many and remain in their hearts forever. Rick is survived by his wife Vickie Smith of Butterfield, daughter Stacie (Waylan) Mattison of Mapleton, son Wayne (Shannon) Smith of Hanover, mother Marian Smith of St. James, brothers Kevin (Jan) Smith of Long Prairie, Alan (Crystal) Smith of Phoenix, AZ, sisters Karen (Albert) Haler of St. James, Barb Boerner of St. James, Kathy Peters of Faribault, Marcia Moerke of Maple Grove, Teresa (Bob) Liesenfeld of Comfrey, 4 grandchildren Nolan, Hayden, Alayna, Kassidy and many other relatives and friends.
