Richard Lentsch

September 15, 1925 — January 16, 2009

Richard John Lentsch was born at home near Comfrey on September 15, 1925, the son of Henry and Mayme (Bollig) Lentsch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. Dick attended Comfrey Public School, graduating with the Class of 1942. Following his high school graduation, he trained to be a plumber. Dick served in the artillery as a Gun Crewman in the European Theater during World War II, from November 27, 1945 to December 29, 1946, where he received the American Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He also was a paratrooper, and injured his back on one jump. On November 5, 1960, he married Vera Loof at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. Following their marriage, they lived in St. James. Dick was employed by S-T Industries for 36 years. Dick and Vera enjoyed the summers spent at their lake cabin on Lake Koronis near Paynesville. Dick enjoyed fishing, cards, cribbage, visiting with family and friends and tinkering on projects. In February 2007, he became a resident of Pleasantview Good Samaritan Nursing Home where he passed away on January 16, 2009. Survivors include his wife, Vera, of St. James; a brother Omer (Lillian) Lentsch of Glencoe; a sister, Eileen Lentsch of Glencoe; a sister-in-law, Ardelle Neufeld of Mt. Lake and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and brother-in-law, Gordie Neufeld, preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to the DAV, Diabetes Foundation, or the Parkinson Foundation.
