Reinhold Zihlke

Reinhold Albert Zihlke was born July 18, 1922, in Brookville Township, Redwood County, the son of Carl and Bertha (Schultz) Zihlke. He lived his entire life in the Springfield area and farmed until 1965. Reinie then began working at Sanborn Manufacturing where he eventually became the plant manager until his retirement in 1989. He was united in marriage to Gladys Schwartz on September 8, 1943, at St. Paul's Parsonage. Gladys died in 1984. Reinie then married Alice McCorkell Bernardy on June 20, 1987, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. Reinie enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, farming, fixing things, and spending time at the cabin at Lake Shetek. He was also very proud of his position at Sanborn Manufacturing and working with the people there, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Reinhold Albert Zihlke died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at his home in Springfield at the age of 83 years. Survivors include wife- Alice of Springfield; sons- John and wife Patti Zihlke of Springfield, and Mike and wife Lisa Zihlke of Springfield; daughters- Lois and husband Gary Mattson of Springfield, and Barb and husband Mike Marz of Springfield; step-children- Michael (Nancy) Bernardy, Christine (Be) Troung, Brian (Michele) Bernardy, and Steve (Debbi) Bernardy; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and 15 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife- Gladys; baby Zihlke; brothers- Bill and Emil Zihlke; and sisters- Elsie Wendler and Emma Zihlke.
