Raymond Tauer

Ray was born April 26, 1928, in Home Township, to Raymond J. and Mathilda M. (Domeier) Tauer. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Anna Peggy (Krzmarzick) Tauer; eight children, Janet of Minneapolis, James (Denise) of Plymouth, Joel (Mary) of Edina, Andrea (Dan Baumann) of Minnetonka, Carole (Wil Bowser II) of St. Louis Park, William (Brenda) of Boise, Idaho, Valerie (John) Kranz of Amboy, and Leah (Tony) Vee of New Ulm; 14 grandchildren, Aubrey, Zach, Theresa, Sam, Chandra Andrea, Ethan, Justine, Jordan Tyler Baumann, Lauren Andrew, and Alix Rheana Kranz, and one expected; brothers Elroy Al of Columbia, MO and Bennett of Sleepy Eye; sister; Mary Ann Tauer of Chicago, IL; Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a younger brother, Leander. Ray and Peggy were married October 17, 1953 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October of 2003. Ray was called Junior by his parents and many relatives and people who knew him from a young age called him Juni Ray attended St. Mary's Elementary and High School in Sleepy Eye. He spent his life as a farmer until retiring in 1995. He served as supervisor at the Home Township board for 30 years and was elected to the board again in 2006 on a write-in. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid, Brown County Historical Society, German- Bohemian Heritage Society, and the Sleepy Eye Area Historical Society. Ray enjoyed taking his family camping to the Black Hills, Yellowstone, and other National Parks. He and Peggy traveled in the southeast and western United States and enjoyed two trips to Europe, visiting Germany and their ancestral villages in the Czech Republic and Luxembourg. He bowled in the Classic League for many years and enjoyed golf until he lost an eye in 2002 due to ocular melanoma cancer. Each fall, from 1953 to 2003, Ray hunted deer in Sundance area in Wyoming. He looked forward to socializing at Schultz Cafe and playing sheephead at Dan's Bakery.
