Raymond Leonard Olson was born January 17, 1918, on the farm in West Sveadahl, the son of John and Inga (Brevig) Olson. He received his elementary education at West Sveadahl School District #36 and entered the U.S. Air Force on September 28, 1942. Raymond served with the 8th 9th Air Forces during World War II and was later recalled for several months during the Korean conflict. He was in the Signal Corp. and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. Raymond then attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul and graduated in 1946. On February 21, 1960, he was united in marriage to Caroline Hose at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James. Raymond lived his entire life on the farm 2 miles northwest of West Sveadahl until moving to Comfrey in January of 1991. He was a lifelong member of West Sveadahl Lutheran Church, a member of the Sons of Norway- Lin-Hans-Rud Lodge #479, a life member of VFW Post #1914 in St. James, and a member of Norman Schulte American Legion Post #549 in Darfur. Raymond enjoyed playing his mandolin, hunting, singing, working Hospital Days in Comfrey, and being a member of the Darfur Senior Citizens. Raymond Leonard Olson died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake at the age of 88 years. He is survived by a sister - Evelyn Storest of Duluth; a brother-in-law - Burton Woock of Hackensack; and a niece - Marilee Storest of Duluth. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife- Caroline and sister- Lorraine Woock.
