Raymond Kastner

A prayer service will be on Monday at 5:30 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, MN. Raymond Joseph Kastner was born May 21, 1921 to Joseph and Clara (Saffert) Kastner in Germantown Township in Cottonwood County. He was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church serving in whatever capacity that was needed. He grew up and farmed south of Sanborn on land that his grandfather had purchased and passed on. On November 16, 1942 Ray married Evelyn (Wersal) Kastner at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. Ray loved taking care of his livestock, machinery and family. His hobbies included playing cards and playing the concertina which he taught himself how to play and enjoyed entertaining the residents of nursing homes in the area. Raymond Kastner died, Saturday, August 22, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. Raymond is survived by his wife Evelyn; children - Kenneth and wife Laurice Kastner of Sanborn, Richard and wife Ruth Kastner of Elmore, MN, Carol and husband Gene Olsem of Dundee, MN, Mary and husband Ray Olsem of Dundee, MN, Douglas and wife Angela Kastner of St. Louis Park, MN, Thomas and Kim Kastner of Sanborn, Michael and Val Kastner of Jefferson, SD, Dean and Ann Kastner of Fredericksburg, VA; 29 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; brother - Wayne and wife Diane Kastner of Sanborn; sister - Alice Radtke of Sanborn; sister-in-law - Delores Kastner; and a brother-in-law - Don Simonson. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; daughters - Karen and Barbara; great granddaughter - Jenna Byers; brother - Joseph Kastner; sister - LaRue Simonson; and brother-in-law - Burnett Radtke.
