Ramona Florence Witt

Ramona Schewe Witt died peacefully on September 1, 2026, at Prairie Cottages in Hutchinson, Minnesota after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm. Private interment will be at Home Cemetery. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Ramona was born July 21, 1933, to Emmett and Esther (Remus) Schewe. She grew up on a farm southeast of town right by the Cottonwood River. She attended country school and later graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School in 1951. She married Gilbert Witt in 1952. They later divorced in 1979. To this union they had their only child, Lisa. In the 60s Ramona worked at the Red Owl grocery store and later the old Sleepy Eye Clinic. When her billing job was taken over by technology, she began working at The Palace Shoe and Clothing store. After her divorce, she was supervisor in the cafeteria at Del Monte until her retirement. She then worked in the activity department at Sleepy Eye Care Center until her dementia became a bit more noticeable. She continued to ride her bike out there to visit the residents for as long as she was able.

Ramona enjoyed refinishing furniture and was an avid antique collector, owning many original Sleepy Eye items and pottery. When you walked into her house it was like walking into the 1800 and 1900s. Her Christmas tree looked like it came out of the Victorian era. She was always asked to host the Christmas party for the various groups she belonged to. She was a natural born hostess and loved to entertain. Ramona was an excellent cook and baker, and her specialties were her potato salad, sauerkraut, and homemade German Knodels. She also took so much pride in her lawn and large flower garden.

Ramona was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Qui Vive Study Club, and Sleepy Eye Historical Society. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Ramona's faith was foremost very important to her. She also held various positions on several boards at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye.

Ramona is survived by her daughter, Lisa Bohlin of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Nicholas Nachreiner (Heather Sukalski) of New Ulm, and Adam Braun of Cobden; great-grandchildren, Trevor (Sydney Schauman) Nachreiner of Sleepy Eye, Trenton (Odin Moe) Nachreiner of Mankato, Natalee Nachreiner of Sleepy Eye, and Ella Nachreiner of New Ulm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Stanley (Muriel and Adeline) Schewe and Lyle (Alvina "Toots") Schewe; and grandson, Nathan Nachreiner.

Ramona was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Blessed be her memory.
