Rachel Jean Boyum

Rachel Jean Boyum, an adored mother, grandmother, and an inspiring figure in her community, died peacefully on November 30, 2023, at the age of 83.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia, on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Madelia. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Madelia. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Born to Joe and Lilian Pygman on December 26, 1939, in Truman, Minnesota, Rachel was raised in and around Madelia, Minnesota. Her life was a testament to faith, love, resilience and service.

Married first to Larry Guyer, she was a devoted mother to seven children. She later married Stan Boyum and welcomed an eighth child. Rachel was not just a nurturing mother but also a successful businesswoman, helping many families achieve their home ownership dreams.

Rachel's commitment to her community was unwavering. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Madelia Rotary and Red Hatters. She volunteered over many years with the American Cancer Society and Luther Memorial/Living Meadows.

Her single-minded vision and sometimes stubborn perseverance drove her in all endeavors, whether sewing a dress for a dance, saving for cherished Christmas gifts, traveling the globe, or building her businesses. Her life was filled with faith, family, and friends. She adored her pets, loved to read and her passion for travel brought her joy and countless adventures.

Rachel's strength, determination, and love of life left a lasting impact on everyone she met. The beam in her eyes when she spoke of her family, the twinkle in her eyes when she would laugh and the fire in her eyes when her temper flared were unmistakable and indelible.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lilian Pygman; her husbands, Larry Guyer and Stan Boyum; and son-in-law, John Halderman.

Rachel's legacy lives on through her eight children, Larry (Deb) Guyer, Scott (Lori Goosen) Guyer, Lori (Brett) Walters, Margaret (Steve) Owens, Rachelle Peterson, Mike (Yvonne) Guyer, Chris Halderman Guyer, and Kevin (Raina) Boyum; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

We celebrate Rachel's remarkable life, her indomitable spirit, and her unwavering dedication to her faith, family and community. Her memory will be cherished and remembered always.
