Phyllis was born to Joseph and Anne Broghammer in Dell Rapids, S.D. She attended St. Marys school and graduated from Colman High School in 1952. Phyllis received a degree in Elementary Education from General Beadle State College in Madison, S.D., now known as Dakota State University, and began her teaching career in Chester, South Dakota. On a blind data she met her future husband Jack in 1955. Jack and Phyllis were married on August 13, 1956. Phyllis gave birth to three sons, John, Mike and Pat. Jack and Phyllis have 12 grandchildren. Phyllis loved life and enjoyed having many friends. She had a special love for St. James and was involved in numerous community activities including Cultural Tours, Meals on Wheels, Catholic Daughters, and the Street Scape Committee. Phylliss love for old buildings led to her biggest community project, the restoration of the exterior of the St. James Opera House. Phyllis and Anne Sorensen took on the challenge of restoring the Opera Houses exterior to its original design. For all her local efforts Phyllis received the Service to Mankind award presented by the Sertoma Club. Recently Phyllis and Jack were the Grand Marshals of the Railraods Days parade. Phyllis was preceded in death by Joe and Anna Broghammer, parents, Carmel Kleve, sister, Charles Broghammer, brother, James Broghammer, brother.
