Phomma Souvannarath

Phomma Souvannarath, 75, of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, died on August 16, 2026, at Windom Area Health.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Mountain Lake City Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Phomma was born on March 3, 1951, in Laos. He served in the Laos military assisting the US Armed Forces during the Forgotten War in the early 1970s. In 1985, Phomma, his wife Tina, and daughter, Mary, moved to the United States. In 1989, they were blessed with a son, John and son, Jimmy, in 1992.

Together, Phomma and Tina made their home in Mountain Lake in 1990. He worked several years at Butterfield Foods, retiring in 2019.

Phomma enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings win and lose and sing traditional Laotian music in his own band. In his free time, he also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting squirrels, spending time with his buddies, and being a grandpa.

Phomma is survived by his wife, Tina; children, Mary of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, John of Austin, Minnesota, and Jimmy (Elizabeth) of Mankato; grandchildren, Nadia, Marcus, Winnry, Kiyomi, and Nyomee.

Phomma was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Noy Souvannarath.
