Peter Rahn

Peter P. Rahn, the son of Peter G. and Gertrude (Pankratz) Rahn was born on December 28, 1906, near Butterfield, MN. He received his education in Mountain Lake schools, and Peter was baptized upon confession of his faith at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, MN. On March 5, 1935, Peter was united in marriage to Helen M. Harder at Mountain Lake. They made their home and farmed in Midway Township until moving to their farm in Lakeside Township, Cottonwood County in 1940. On December 15,1963, Peter became a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom, MN, where he served as an active member. Peter was a very innovative and progressive farmer in both his livestock and grain operations. He often led the way with new farming methods after carefully studying all possibilities. They served as 4-H leaders, and Peter also served on the Mountain Lake Co-op Elevator board and the Cottonwood County Fair board. Peter faithfully cared for his wife and supported their children in all of their activities. He loved music, had a great respect for education and was exceedingly patient. Peter died on Thursday, December 14, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. He attained the age of 99 years. Peter is survived by 5 children, Dr. Dennis Rahn and wife Terry of Marathon, FL, Noel Rahn and wife Angelina of Edina, MN, Jannath Dwight and husband Robert of Plymouth, MN, JoAnn Becker and Thomas of Plymouth, and Scott Rahn and wife Robin of Bingham Lake; 10 grandchildren, Dr. Kevin Rahn and wife Karla, Valerie Dwight and friend Paul Deal, Angelina Lawton and husband Brian, Noel Rahn and wife Sara, Marcia Dwight, Mark Rahn and wife Rachel, Adriana Akhtar and husband Jamiel, Melissa Becker, Scott Rahn and Hannah Rahn; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Lorena Gruhlke of Visalia, CA; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen M. Rahn on November 30, 1993; 2 brothers, Willard and Ben; and 2 sisters, Marie Rupp and Olga. The family prefers memorials for the American Lutheran Church in Windom.
