Pearl Frances Rettke was born to Henry Rettke and Elsie (Sanders) Rettke in St. James Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota, on March 11, 1924. She was the fourth of five children and the last surviving sibling. She had a difficult life, as at age fourteen her mom passed away and she became mother to her five-year-old brother. At age eighteen she injured her hand and suffered a severe case of lockjaw. On April 11, 1943, at age 19, Pearl married Warren Haglund. They lived on a farm north of Butterfield where they raised their seven children, farmed, and had a trucking business, hog buying station, and cattle yards in their earlier years. Pearl was a homemaker and also helped run the family businesses, which kept her very busy. Pearl accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1953 at the age of 29. Pearls faith was strong and inspiring. She not only practiced her faith but was a living example of it. Her kindness and service to her family and others was not an obligation for her, but a privilege. Her love for others served as an example to many. Pearl had the embodiment of what a Christian life should look like, though she would be the first to admit she was not perfect and had her share of heartaches along the way. Her life wasnt easy--she had many difficult experiences along the path of her life--but God sustained her and helped her for 95 years. Pearl lost her husband Warren in April 2003. She married Harvey Stoesz on March 8, 2008 and they lived in Mt. Lake, MN, until they moved to the Lodge and then Good Samaritan in 2017. Pearl was an awesome baker and cook and loved gardening. She also enjoyed eating out, spending time with her children, and making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This brought her immense joy right up to the end. Pearl is survived by her husband, Harvey Stoesz, and her children: Lanny and his wife, Johnelle; Julene Hockel; Roxanne and her husband, Steven Smith; Renee and her husband, Steven Tierney; Debra and her husband, David Korton; Richard and his wife, Dee; Yvonne and her husband, Harlin Rozeboom; as well as 19 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by step children, Jim Stoesz, Becky Hagen and husband Rick, Rachel Janzen and husband Bill, Jerome Stoesz and wife Marilyn, Andrea Sindt and husband Chris, 11 step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren. Pearl was preceded in death by her first husband Warren Haglund, her parents, four siblings, son-in-law Howard Hockel and step daughter, Donna Stoesz and step granddaughter, Hannah Stoesz.
