Paul Andrew Thompson

Paul Andrew Thompson, age 90 of Saint James, MN, died on April 7, 2026, at Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm.

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James and will continue on Monday from 12:00PM until 1:00PM at Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James.

Funeral Service will be held at Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 1:00PM.

Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Saint James immediately following the service.

Military honors will be provided by the Saint James Veterans Honor Guard.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James.

Paul A. Thompson, son of Kenneth and Clara (Marth) Thompson, was born on January 17, 1936, in Watonwan County. He grew up in the Saint James area with his siblings. Paul married Esther Delores (Golterman) Thompson on April 15, 1961, and enjoyed 64 years, 11 months, and 23 days of wedded bliss. Their union awarded them with their son, Wayne.

Paul worked various jobs, but spent most of his working days with Tony Downs. He was also a member of the Army Reserves where he proudly served for 29.5 years.

Paul and Esther gave up the city life in 1991 and moved to the country to help Wayne raise his kids on the family homestead. In Paul’s free time, he enjoyed some small woodworking projects, trapping, hunting, and camping. He also enjoyed fishing adventures with his wife and son in the early years, followed by many more fishing adventures with his grandkids.

Paul was a member of the Saint James American Legion and Eagle’s club. He was also a Lifetime member of the Minnesota Trappers Association.

Paul is survived by his wife, Esther Thompson; son, Wayne (RaeAnn) Thompson; grandchildren, Melissa (Robert) Hamsmith, Kimberly Thompson (Jared Landsteiner), Tyler (Stephanie) Thompson, Darren (Megan) Thompson, Caleb Thompson (Wylie Rollings), and Jackie (Cayson) Hill; siblings, Harlan Thompson, Clarence (Boni) Thompson; sister-in-law, Betty (Golterman) Thompson; 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Clara; step-mother, Nilva Thompson; siblings, Arthur Thompson, Murvin Thompson, Esther (Thompson) Francis, Grace (Thompson) Carstensen, Joyce (Thompson) Blowers, Joan (Thompson) Montemurno; 2 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, and granddaughter, Jillian Thompson.
