Paul C. Sawatzky, age 89, of St. James, died on Sunday, September 9, 2013, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Friday, September 14, 2012 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Martin Lopahs officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 4pm to 7pm at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and on Friday one hour before services at the church. Paul C. Sawatzky passed away two days before his 90th birthday. Paul was born September 11, 1922, the son of C.J. and Susan (Enns) Sawatzky. He graduated from Butterfield High School in 1940. He was united in marriage to Lois Hinrichs on June 7, 1946. Paul was a farmer and for many years farmed land homesteaded by his grandfather in Nelson Township. He served for over 40 years on the Nelson Township Board and also 6 years as a Watonwan County Commissioner. Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, reading and crossword puzzles. He played basketball and softball in his youth and later enjoyed watching sports especially if his children or grandchildren were playing. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois; sister, Olga (Al) Fast of Dowling, FL; children, Patricia (Charles) Holte of Colorado Springs, CO; Richard (Sandra) Sawatzky of North Mankato; Peggy (Patrick) Warner of Rosemount and Larry Sawatzky of New Field, NY; grandchildren, Pamela, Taber, Ryan, Jared, Elaine, Zachary, Danielle, Jessica and Jordan; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvin and sister Margaret. Visitation 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday, September 13, 2012 Sturm Funeral Home, St. James 906 10th Ave. S.
