Patricia Phyllis Blum

May 26, 1924 — June 14, 2016

Patricia Phyllis (Cosgriff) Blum was born on May 26, 1924 to Stanley P. and Cecilia (Whalen) Cosgriff in Fulda, Minnesota. She attended St. Gabriel's Catholic School through 8th grade and then attended public high school. After graduation, Pat worked for the Interstate Power Company in SW Minnesota and South Dakota. Later she also worked at Data Control in Redwood Falls. In 1967 she began work at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank, as a teller, until retirement in 1992. On June 12, 1948, Pat married John (Barney) Blum where they made their home on a farm along the Cottonwood River and Dutch Charlie Creek. Pat and Barney raised three children: Debbie, John, and Mike. Pat's Catholic faith was a very important part of her life. In the early years, she was active in CCW, including roles as president and treasurer. She was also a Eucharistic minister, on the Parish Council, a member of the church choir, and on the Social Concerns committee. She loved to garden and had a green thumb. Beautiful flowers and garden art adorned her yard at her beloved farm home and later at her home in Lamberton. Many of Pat's flowers continue to bloom in family gardens across Minnesota. Pat was also an avid sports fan. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and playing softball. She always looked forward to attending her children and grandchildren's activities and sporting events. As a loyal Minnesota sports fan, Pat faithfully cheered on the Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, and MN Gophers. Nothing brought more happiness to her life than spending time with family. Pat (affectionately known as Pooh) was a kind and gentle soul and will be remembered for her witty sense of humor. She was surrounded by family when she received her angel wings on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall at the age of 92. Patricia was preceded in her death by her husband (John), daughter (Deborah), mother, father, five brothers, and three sisters. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by: John S. of St. Cloud and Michael (Louise) of Marshall; son-in-law Craig (Linda) of Willmar; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bernard of Maple Plain. The Blum family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Boulder Creek and Estates and Prairie Home Hospice and Community for the compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in Pat's name, to Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care at 408 E. Main Street, Marshall, MN 56258.
