Osvaldo Dominquez

November 12, 1948 — July 24, 2011

Osvaldo Dominquez, age 62, of St. James died on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Trimont Health care Center in Trimont. Osvaldo Waldo Dominquez was born in Cuba on November 12, 1948, to parents Rogelio and Margarita (Moya) Dominquez. He was the middle child of seven born to the couple. He has a brother and two sisters that survive him living in Cuba. Waldo grew up in Cuba, living in a coastal community. His family was Christian and attended many church festivals. He completed high school in Cuba, and then continued his education for teaching. He taught elementary school for 15 years. He was forced to leave his job because he was a Christian and the Communist Party considered him a bad example for the children. Waldo served in the Cuban military for about six months, but was sent to a concentration camp because his ideas were contrary to communist ideology. He worked hard labor in the fields and slept in open tents. Following a United Nations investigation of the camp, he left Cuba and went to Spain, the Dominican Republic and finally to Miami. He traveled with church members to Myerstown, PA, where he received missionary credentials. He lived in Texas for three years, a short time in Alabama and Pennsylvania before moving to Minnesota. Waldo was never married. He enjoyed watching basketball and baseball on TV and listening to Christian and classical music.
