Opal Lottie (Plueger) Larson, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Harms) Plueger was born on October 30, 1922, at St. Lawrence, SD. She attended country school at St. Lawrence riding a horse and buggy to and from school with her sisters and brothers. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Odin, MN, where she completed her education. Opal was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James, MN. On November 20, 1938, Opal was united in marriage to Adolph M. Larson in Sioux Falls, SD. While Adolph worked in construction they made their home in Northrup, MN, Sioux Falls, SD, and St. Joseph, MO. In 1945, they started farming - first near Ormsby, MN and then they bought their home south of Butterfield, MN. This is where they remained until Adolph's passing on February 18, 1992. Opal worked at Tony Downs and Butterfield Produce for a number of years, and also helped her father-in-law while he lived with Opal and Adolph for 14 years. Opal moved to her home St. James in July 1993, and in June 2003, she moved to the Prairie View Apartments in St. James. On August 28, 2005, Opal entered the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman, MN. She loved working with flowers, especially her African Violets, gardening, feeding birds, baking pies and buns, helping others (always thinking of others before herself), and she was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Opal died on Friday afternoon, September 9, 2005, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman, MN. Opal is survived by her daughter, Loretta and her husband Gordy Luckow of Fairmont, MN; her son, Lowell and his wife Carole Larson of Brooklyn Park, MN; two grandchildren, Melanie and her husband Mike Accola of Oakdale, MN, and Brian and his wife Georgia Larson of Brooklyn Park, MN; three great grandchildren, Andrew and Katelyn Accola, and Allison Larson; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Pearl McFarlane, Esther Schuknecht, Edna Bertilson and Lois Maltzau; and two brothers, Raymond and Elmer Plueger.
