Ole Niehuis

Graveside Service: Private Family Service , at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN Ole Richard Niehuis Bud died August 4, 2005, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center,Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. He was born April 19, 1917, the son of Ole A. and Besse (Reints) Niehuis. He graduated from Austin High School in 1935. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942, and served in the First and Third Marine Divisions, leaving his country's service in 1945. His combat service included the Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima battles in the Pacific Theater. He farmed with his father from 1945 to 1955, and then independently or with others until 1970, when he was hired by the Ochs Brick and Tile Company of Springfield, Minnesota, where he worked until his retirement. After suffering a stroke in 1995, he became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care center where he remained until his death. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by a brother, Dean W. Niehuis, Austin; three nieces; Margaret (Dennis) Vaughter, Burton, Michigan; Sharon Thonen, Omaha, Nebraska; Virginia Reagan, Circle Pines, Minnesota; a nephew, John M. Reagan, Austin. Other survivors are the many friends he made in 88 years of life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Adele Reagan Austin.
