Olav Allan Thormodson

Olav Allan Thormodson, age 91, of Madelia, MN died on November 1, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN.

Service will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church-Madelia, on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

The clergy will be Rev. Kelly Heide. Interment will be at the Linden Lutheran Cemetery in Hanska, MN.

Military rites will be provided by the Madelia Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Olav Allan Thormodson was born March 9, 1932 to Orlando and Adeline Thormodson in Madelia, MN.  He graduated from Madelia High School and then served in the United States Army for 2 years.  He spent 17 months serving overseas in Korea.  Olav married Irene Volkmann on November 29, 1953 and the couple had children, Craig, Diane, and adopted Linda and Floyd.  Olav worked in farming as an environmental consultant, as well as driving bus and managing Madelia Bus Services.  After Irene's passing in 2000, he married Caryn McLean in 2004.  Olav served on the boards at both Trinity and Linden Lutheran Church, Madelia School Board, and the Co-op Service Unit.  He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, working with mechanical things, antique tractors, traveling and toting children around!

Olav is survived by his wife, Caryn McLean; children, Craig (Romaine) Thormodson of Madelia, Diane Thormodson (Frank) of Mankato, Floyd (Yvette) Thormodson of Bradenton, FL; step children, Tony McCumber of NE, Tammy Pietsch (Joe) of Madelia, Todd McCumber (Stacy) of Rochester, MN; 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Orlando and Adeline Thormodson; wife, Irene Thormodson; daughter, Linda Thormodson and twin infant sons; siblings, Theoris (C. John) Christenson-Johnson,  Theodore (Darlene) Thormodson; sister-in-law, Luther (Karen Dauer)

In lieu of flower, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Linden Lutheran Cemetery Association.
