Norris Raymen Highby was born November 9, 1912, in Ann Township, Cottonwood County the son of Alfred and Marie (Warner) Highby. He graduated from Lamberton High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Norris was a decorated veteran of World War II serving in North Africa and Anzio, Italy with the Field Artillery Unit #916. After his Honorable Discharge he was united in marriage to Ardis Hanson on June 22, 1946, in Dovray, MN. The couple farmed in Ann Township south of Revere until retiring in 1979 and moving into Lamberton. Norris was a member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church, served on the church council and was a member of Andrew Peterson American Legion Post #41. He also served on the Ann Township Board and the Revere Co-op Oil Board. Norris enjoyed wood-working, fishing and hunting. Norris Highby died Friday, May 6, 2011, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 98 years. He is survived by sons- Steve (Bonnie) Highby of St. Joseph, MO, Dennis (Linda) Highby of Sidney, NE, and Mark (Lori) Highby of Revere, MN; daughters- Mary (Bill) Lubanovic of Eagan, MN, and Susan (Eric) Knutson of Eagan, MN; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother- Russell Highby of Revere; and sisters- Eleanor Bakken of Lamberton, and Lila Esse of Hayward, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ardis in 2007; and brother Lewis Highby.
