Norma Jean Quiring

Norma Jean Quiring, age 89, of Fairmont, MN, formerly of Mountain Lake, MN passed away on June 29, 2022, at Goldfinch Assisted Living in Fairmont. A visitation will be on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00pm at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. Funeral Service will be held at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church on Tuesday, July 5th, at 1:00pm. Burial will be at the Mountain Lake City Cemetery immediately following the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake, MN. Norma Jean Quiring (Karschnik) was born on August 10th, 1932, to Carl and Lucille (Olson) Karschnik at the farmhouse in Kimball Township, Jackson County that was 10 miles south of Mountain Lake. Norma was baptized at Kimball Lutheran Church on September 4, 1932. She was confirmed at the same church on July 28, 1946. Norma attended a one room country school for 8 years in Jackson County. Then she attended Mountain Lake Public High School where she graduated in the class of 1950. She met her life partner, Arnold Quiring, in high school. After graduation, the two were united in marriage on January 4, 1951, at Kimball Lutheran Church. This union blessed them with 3 children, Jim, Dale, and Nyla. Arnold and Norma worked for 11 years for Henry Pankratz before becoming a teachers assistant at the Mountain Lake School system. She worked as an Elementary assistant up until her retirement in 1994. After retirement, Norma did some volunteer work for RSVP, Care and Share, church and attempted to play golf. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school, Alter Guild, Funeral Committee, and sang in the choir. Besides being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and friend, she was a wonderful baker and cook. Every Saturday, she baked pies, cookies, bread, tea rings and zwieback for family and friends. Dale said he never ate a loaf of boughten bread until he went to college. Left to cherish Normas memory include her children, Jim (Barb) Quiring, Dale (Sheryl) Quiring, Nyla (Brad) Gerhardt; grandchildren, Andrew (Kelsey) Quiring, Jeffrey Quiring, Hollee Quiring, Hillaree (Kelly) Meyer, Lukas (Darcy) Gerhardt, Christopher (Ashley) Gerhardt; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Louise Quiring and Betty (Stan) Hotzler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lucille Karschnik; husband, Arnold Quiring; grandson, Scott Gerhardt; brother-in-law, Donald Quiring.
