Norbert Sturm

Norbert Otto Sturm was born on October 18, 1922, in Leavenworth Township, the son of John and Mary (Helget) Sturm, and raised on a farm southeast of Springfield. He attended country school in Leavenworth Township and later boarding school at St. Raphael's in Springfield. Norbert was united in marriage to Bernice Braulick on February 12, 1945. After marriage, he lived, farmed, and raised his family in Leavenworth Township, remaining on the farm until 1997. He then moved to Springfield, where he resided until his passing. He was a lifelong member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council. He also served on the Leavenworth Township board for many years. Norbert enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting in his early years, later fishing with his grandsons and spending time with all of his grandchildren. He enjoyed holiday gatherings with his family. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially baseball, which he both played and managed in Leavenworth. He also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends at Fritz's, bird watching, and was an avid reader. Norbert is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bernice of Springfield, MN; sons, John (Sharon) Sturm of Aitkin, MN, and Dick (Alicia) Sturm of Springfield, MN; daughters, Beverly Sturm (special friend Arthur Washington) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Colleen (Pat) Windschitl of Springfield, MN. He is survived by eight grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Sturm, brother Lloyd Sturm, sister Viola Seidl, and granddaughter Tiffini Sturm.
