Nathan Potter

d. December 20, 2013

In just 30 years, Nate Potter touched a lifetime of people. He had a knack for bringing people together. Anyone who met Nate would tell you, his smile and sense of fun was always there and guaranteed to cheer up your day. Nathan Scott Potter was raised on the family century farm northwest of Springfield that he later farmed with his father. He graduated from Springfield High School, attended college in Mankato, and graduated from Ridgewater Community College in Willmar, MN with degrees in Farm Operations Management and Agricultural Business. Nate loved the solitude of the farm life and also believed deeply in community. Nate traveled the nation for the Pork Producers and worked major events on both coasts. He was a fire fighter with the Springfield Fire Department and a barn manager for the Brown County Fair Swine Barn. Since age 6, Nate participated in the Springfield Nativity Pageant in several roles over the years. Nate had a real passion for the outdoors from fishing to hunting and trapping. Nate would take his grandmother deer hunting each year. Nate loved taking his motorcycle out on the open road for fresh air. One of Nate's biggest passions was the annual display put on by Potter's Pyros. For anyone who ever attended this celebration of friendship and community through music and fireworks, you never left disappointed, hungry, or…thirsty. Nate's life is celebrated by his family including: father mother - Dennis Lucy Potter (Springfield, MN); sister - Jessica Potter and her partner Jonathan O'Neill (Hallandale, FL); sister - Erin (Potter) Lafferty, and her husband John, and her children Kierin Kiera; grandmother - Barbara Hunter (Windom, MN); and grandfather - Robert Potter (Springfield). He was preceded in death by his grandfather - Clifford Hunter and grandmother - Lorraine Potter.
