Monica Mary Vee

January 24, 1926 — October 24, 2015

Monica Mary (Turbes) Vee age 89, passed on to join family and friends that have went before her on Saturday October 24, 2015, as a result of a accidental fall. Her sudden death was a shock to everyone as she lived a full life and prided herself on being independent. Up to her fatal accident she maintained her own apartment, cooked, baked, sewed, still drove her van and did many favors for friends and family. Her upbeat attitude, hard work, and generosity will be sorely missed by all that knew her and loved her. She was born in the Wanda area on the family farm on January 24, 1926 to parents Nicholas and Susan (Schilling) Turbes. Monica had three brothers and four sisters. The family farmed in the Wanda, Morgan, New Ulm and Sleepy Eye areas. Monica had to quit school to help take care of her infant sister. The needs of the family, work and responsibility became a lifelong practice as it was for so many raised during the Great Depression. In her early years while on her own Monica enjoyed the company of her friends and sisters, they hitchhiked to parts of Northern Minnesota and into Canada to see the sights, they also attended many dances and enjoyed having a good time. Monica worked in parts of Brown County and in New Ulm in a few jobs before meeting and marrying Ordell Vee of Hanska on February 21, 1950 , the marriage produced six sons and four daughters, they divorced in 1998. During the marriage the family resided in Hanska for a couple of years, three years on the Vee farm and at several locations in Linden Township. Monica worked as a housewife until the mid-seventies when it became necessary for her to work outside the home to help support the family, she worked at B.F. Goodrich and for other owners of the factory for about 15 years before retiring. Monica enjoyed family gatherings, good food, playing cards, cooking, baking, sewing, creating and trying new recipes and dishes. She excelled in the kitchen, her old family recipes and German dishes were unmatched, especially the German style sauerkraut, potato dumplings and vinegar pie. She had a lifelong appreciation and admiration for the hard work, dedication and love of family practiced by her father and told her children many stories of her childhood while they were growing up, as did her sister Dorothy who lived with the family for a while during the 50s. Monica always had time for family and friends. Monica enjoyed old time country music, a good television show, especially if it was spiritual and uplifting, she also enjoyed a drink now and then but never to excess. In her younger days she also enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and crocheting. Monica had a strong faith in God that carried her through good times and bad, she supported her Church as best as she could, helped with many funeral lunches, helped at the school for a while and rarely missed Sunday Mass which she enjoyed very much. She believed strongly in following the Ten Commandments and living by the Golden Rule, she was humble and for the most part non-judgmental and she strived to be a good Catholic. She firmly believed that she would see the friends and relatives who passed on before her when it became her time to move on to the next life and they would be there to greet her when she passed on to the other side. Monica is survived by her sons, Ordell, Jr. "Terry" (Dee Clark) Vee of Madelia, Robert (Arlene) Vee of Jackson, David (Dawn) Vee of Hanska, Daniel (Becky) Vee of Hanska, Anthony "Tony" (Leah) Vee of New Ulm; daughters, Mary Vee (Lawrence Redmond) of Ramsey, Lu Ann (Robert) Dostal of Madelia, Patricia Barnhart (Ross Becken) of Hanska, Nancy (Evan) Lloyd of Paris, Texas; brothers, Paul (Audrey) Turbes of New Ulm, Anthony "Tony" Turbes (Janet Stinson) of Stutter Creek, California; sisters, Joan Pascarell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tekla Turbes of Las Vegas, Nevada, Claire (Jerry) Mountain of Mankato, Dorothy Weller of New Ulm, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
