Mildred Evelyn Bittner was born May 3, 1920 in Springfield, MN to Joseph A. and Anna (Lund) Bittner. A member of Zion Lutheran church, she was confirmed on April 9, 1933, and graduated from Springfield High School in 1938. Millie married Olaf Anderson on November 26, 1939. They made their home in Sanborn. They had 3 daughters. She enjoyed being a telephone operator in the days of number please, and party lines. She also had various bookkeeping careers for many years until her retirement. Said retirement came soon after her November 9, 1979, marriage to Ernest Wendt. They made their home in Springfield. Her talents and hobbies included writing, making quilts, making teddy bears, making music, and making friends. She chaired various organizations and volunteered many of her services in her community and church. Millie's love of God and her strivings to live for God shone through for her family and to those who knew her best. Mildred Wendt, age 87 of Springfield, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, at the Springfield Medical Center Hospital. Millie is survived by her 3 daughters, Dianne Hill of Montevideo, MN, Kathleen Grundmeyer of Madelia, MN, and Eileen Berg and (special friend) Wes Carlson of Willmar MN, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 1 great-great grandson, and 3 step great-great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Olaf in 1974, husband Ernest in 1994, brothers Gerald and Joseph, infant twins, and sisters Ada and Agnes.
